Wow, I can’t even believe how time flies.
I recently told a friend that I don’t really care that I’m 40, the number doesn’t bother me. I’m just completely and utterly confused by it! How did I get here? I feel like I went from 29 to 40 in a blink.
I guess everyone feels like that.
Anyway, that is my excuse for not writing in a WHILE. I’m sure you were at the edge of your seat :()
Alas, we are settling into Oregon life and slowly transitioning to true Oregonians. I am ‘official’ now and got my drivers license updated. The big news is that we bought a house and moved in!
It’s been intensely busy with Jeremy gone off and on. All of our furniture is in our Austin house since it was a furnished rental, so we’re starting from scratch. But now that we are in and have rebuilt a livable amount of stuff (thank you habitat for humanity store and facebook marketplace!)
So, while all that stuff was exhausting, we’re now almost at a point where we can start doing other things besides all house all the time. I’m looking forward to getting out in nature again this weekend!
Jeremy is also really enjoying his new job despite how intense it can be, so that is the most important thing. I am rediscovering my inner power-tool-badass with putting together furniture, lawn care, dishwasher repair, etc! We love the location cause there is so much to do around.
Health and healthcare overall has been pretty good too. I’ve been able to establish pcp care and really like the system that’s here (which is saying a lot!). It’s small but connected to everything important so I feel like I’m in good hands. I am hoping to keep a few of my specialists in Austin so that I don’t have to start from scratch (and it gives me a good reason to visit every so often!).
So overall, things are feeling right. We’re supposed to be here…for something.
I just definitely need to start putting more energy into making friends. Now that we’re settled, I feel the stir craziness setting in when Jeremy is gone. It’s been 3 years since we’ve really been apart, so I expected this. I just need to join a sports league or buddhist sangha, or something that gets me interacting with locals regularly so that i make friends.
I miss my people!! So that’s my next endeavor.
I go on my (first!) in-person retreat with my meditation teacher in a week, which I’m REALLY excited about. After that, I’ll focus fully on volunteering or something so that I can get some more exposure. Good news is that everyone that I have met here is extremely nice, so I don’t think I’ll have a problem once I start making an effort. I’m pretty likeable, right?!
Nonetheless, it’s been nice to focus on something other than solely my health and to have a ‘place’ again after the last year and a half!
I hope you plan to visit, set up your flight alerts for Redmond, Oregon now!
