Monday: day 5 (we’re busting out)

Yesterday was a fairly uneventful day. The highlight was that our friend, Jodi, that now lives in Colorado, was in town for work and was able to adjust her trip to stop by. She brought Jeremy tacos and guacamole and me some gorgeous flowers. I was also able capitalize on the guac, which allowed my lunch to have flavor!

Late in the afternoon they took the third drain out and removed the heart monitor. They said I could actually be discharged, but at that point the overwhelm of getting back to the hotel and figuring out all the necessary modifications was too much for us. I decided to stay one more night and have the extra care.

Now we’re (im)patiently waiting for the discharge paperwork. I’ve been up and moving lots today and i passed a couple of my original nurses who all commented on how great i look.

Jeremy just ran to cvs to get my prescriptions and I had the discharge instructions reviewed with me so as soon as he gets back, I think we can other the Lyft and get out of here!

First order of business is a shower! I’m so excited about washing my hair (or actually having Jeremy wash my hair since I can’t lift my arms above my head). It’s definitely going to be a challenge to re-learn how to navigate my limitations, but my body will make sure I remember quickly. I definitely feel rickety. Lots of parts make funny noises when I move around.

I want to allow myself to heal and not push myself too hard so I can get back to where I want to be asap.

We have a follow up on Wed (neck surgeon) and Thurs (thoracic surgeon) to have everything reevaluated. Other than that, hopefully we can just relax and maybe go see something here or at least enjoy the sun a day.
